History
Rejowiec Fabryczny is the second city in the Chelmski district. The municipal laws were introduced in 1962,
but the first mention of settlement on this area are dated in XIII century. The founder of nearby Rejowiec - Mikołaj Rej
possessed two farms in the area where the town exists nowadays. After getting married to Zofią Kościanówną he obtained dowry
which was Stajne - Złote which today is Zlota Street and he also obtained royal leas - the Stajne Farm situated in the place
where today is housing estate of the same name.
In the same place, in XVIII century, Ignacy Woyakowski's farm existed. In march 1876 Krzysztof Morawski acquired those
estates. He was also the owner of the manor house with a park which exists till today. Following events had major influence
on urban development of the area:
In 1887 the Association of Nadwislanska railroad purchased part of the estates and in 1879-90 the railway tracks and a
train station were build there.
In 1914 the joint-stock company of Lublin's Factory Portland-Cement "Firlej" basing on the nearby deposits of margle
started to build a Cement Factory. The investment was finished in 1924 , when two rotary kilns of the power of 120.000
tones per year were set in motion. On so called Morawinek two housing places for the workers and specialists were built.
In 1951-55 enlargement of the Cement Factory took place. Five New rotary kilns were built. Thanks to that fact the factory
was able to produce 700.000 tones of cement per year. The Factory was then given the name "Peace" and the nearby developing
housing was given the title of labour settlement. On 22 July 1962 Rejowiec Fabryczny was given municipal laws.
Since that time, constant town's development is observed. In 1963 a school building with a gym on the Lubelska street
was made available to the inhabitants, and 5 years later Town office building and police begun to function. In 1971
a tunnel under the railway tracks was built and it provides inhabitants with safe way to the train station. One year later
"teachers house" was made available. In 1977 "East" settlement was started to be built on the area which now shows in which
direction the city is going to develop. The first residents started to live in those apartments in 1978. On 1 June 1981 the
parish under invocation of Rised Holy Cross was founded. It was part of Pawłow and Rejowiec parish. One year later the
sacral complex begun to be build ( now it is the Jana Pawła II Street). On the 5 June 1994 ceremonial consecration was
carried on. The church has a modern and a really beautiful shape. In 1982 Bank Spółdzielczy and outlet of PKO was founded.
In 1985 local kindergarten was offered to the public and in 1986 the first housing co-operative block of flats
was built on the "East" settlement- today 2,5 thousand people live there. In 1998 modern telephone exchange was set
working and it had storage capacity of 600 phone numbers (now it has been replaced by a digital one). One year later
an ambulance service was founded. In 1990 local culture centre came into existence and it was named "Local Centre of
Entertainment and Recreation" - The Manor House. In 1991 local sewage treatment plant and institution for distribution
of gas cylinders was set working.
Year 1991 was of big significance in town's history, then as a result of June's local government elections there was
separation of the town and the commune Rejowiec Fabryczny into two different units: municipality Rejowiec Fabryczny and
Rejowiec Fabryczny parish. The City Council of that time recognised the town's gas installation to be of the highest
importance and they elaborated plans. Gas installation was carried out in a prompt rate (1992-1994).
